On Saturday, July 25, 2026, Listenupshance won the Grade 1 Bing Crosby Stakes at Del Mar and punched a fees paid ticket to the Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Keeneland this fall. He races for Great Friends Stables and Run Fast Racing, and is co owned by Lil Wayne and Rauw Alejandro.

He needed every stride of it. Maximum Bourbon came late and hard down the center of the track and the margin at the wire was a nose. The final time for six furlongs was 1:11.38 over a fast main track. Moonlight finished third.

Emisael Jaramillo rode. Doug O’Neill trained. It was Listenupshance’s first stakes victory, and it arrived at the highest level the sport offers.

The part the highlight reels left out

The race also carried a painful loss.

Cornucopian, the 6-5 favorite trained by Bob Baffert, suffered a right front fetlock injury on the far turn. He was pulled up, vanned off by equine ambulance, and did not survive.

Why a Grade 1 “Win and You’re In” matters

The 2026 Breeders’ Cup World Championships run October 30 and 31 at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky. It is the fourth time Keeneland has hosted, after 2015, 2020, and 2022.

The two day festival features 14 Grade 1 races and more than $34 million in purses. The Breeders’ Cup Sprint, a six furlong dash for the division championship, is the race Listenupshance has now qualified for.

The horse: Listenupshance

Listenupshance is a four year old son of Shancelot, himself a brilliant and fast sprinter.

He entered the Bing Crosby with 13 career starts, four wins, three seconds, and three thirds, for career earnings of $438,570. Saturday was not his first big afternoon at Del Mar either. He won over the same track in August 2025 with veteran jockey Tyler Baze aboard.

Run Fast Racing has said the horse was bought for $10,000 as a yearling. If that number holds, it is the kind of detail the sport repeats for years, because a $10,000 yearling winning a Grade 1 and qualifying for the Breeders’ Cup is exactly the story racing loves to tell about itself.

The connections behind the win

Doug O’Neill trained all three of Run Fast’s recent Del Mar winners. He sent out Che and Ah Jeez on opening Sunday, July 19, then Listenupshance on July 25. Three wins in eight days from one barn, across dirt and turf, sprint and route.

O’Neill is one of the most recognizable trainers in American racing, with two Kentucky Derby wins to his name.

Emisael Jaramillo, who rode Listenupshance on Saturday, also rode Ah Jeez to victory the previous Sunday.
